Guanajuato
Guanajuato is perhaps the most beautiful colonial city in Mexico with some of the worst food. I enjoyed wandering around here and the hotel was great. We toured the Teatro Juarez, took the funicular to the top of the hill and wandered every street we could find. I climbed to the top of one of the hills until I found a neat little church and some great views. I found nearly 500 year old churches, the grainery where the heroes of the independence movement had their heads severed and hung in bird cages until Mexico got their independence and much more.
I really want to like Guanajuato because it's clean, it's very safe and easy to walk. But the food is just plain bad and I love food. On most menus they have pasta, pizza, crepes, hamburgers and then there's a little breakout box in the corner listing "Traditional Food". That would be Mexican food and it's pretty bad quality wise. I enjoyed the many small plazas and the laid back attitude but if only the food was better.
